These are stunning. If they were real I would buy every one of them and frame them.

These are superb. And it really is a testament to how dumbed-down movie posters (and for that matter most book covers) are these days. Keep up the great work!

If you made at least a spine and maybe a back cover for these, I would print them out and paste them onto cheap paperbacks.

I must comment, but I'll say nothing that no one else hasn't already: superb. absolutely great. (put exclamation points next to those - cause I'm too lazy to go back) seriously SERIOUSLY good work. from the design/symbol of it all, just masterful "less is more" image making. I can't rave enough, and you can believe that you'll get plenty of work from this if it's submitted. I wish you the best and look forward to seeing more of your design work on many a movie poster, iconic logo and vintage book cover. all the best!

Your collection of book covers for I Can Read Movies are spectacular. The Hudsucker Proxy one rules. At least, you know...for kids. Also, great job being listed in Entertainment Weekly!

These are so cool!!!

John Will Balsley said...

I love those book covers, they are so authentic looking. They really look like something you would find in a middle school library from the 70s or 80s. I recently just started my own illustration blog as well.

Cheers!

These are awesome.

Saul Bass would be so proud.

Unknown said...

i'm not sure if you already know this but entertainment weekly mentioned the "i can read movies" series in their magazine this week (the issue with 6 different covers feat. watchmen characters) on the "must list" page.
also, brilliant covers, they are my favourite.
do one for the shining :)

@Shane Frohnapfel

Wow. you're pretty rude.

I checked out that link you posted. More than one example of art from a medium does not negate the existence of either bit of art. If it was solely the medium that was special, then there'd be no reason for any new... oh let's say... Industrial sound ever. I mean, NIN and KMFDM cover the whole genre and started it decades ago. Why would anyone bother to add their two cents? And frankly, why are NIN and KMFDM writing new stuff? What's left for them to do, really? Silly artists.

If I had brilliant ideas and talent, I could have done these things.

Seriously, wow. I've been staring at 'em for a lot longer than I normally stare at things on non-porn blogs. My compliments to the artists! If I lived in an eternal hallway, these would be the first posters I buy.

(If you're taking requests? Do ORCA!)

I simply can't stop looking at these and making everyone I work with look at them too. Thank you.

Amazing. Simply amazing. Never seen anything like it, even on the Internets! You possess an artistic mind that provokes great envy and jealousy. In a good way. (Um ... might I perhaps stoke your great fires of creativity? My favorite movie is "Ghost World". Just sayin'.)

Unknown said...

Some of them remind of old Colecovision/Atari-type box art.

Unknown said...

AWESOME. I love the throwback to the oldschool-noirish-pulpy-kind of covers. Effective, yet classy.

Unknown said...

I'll add my voice to the throng of those singing your praises. Beyond impressive. Very, very, very cool.
Suggestions? Hmmm... a little summin' different perhaps... here's some stream of consciousness ideas that may or may not have been mentioned already. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Usual Suspects. Boxing Helena. The Fly. Dead Ringers. The Virgin Suicides. The Usual Suspects. Ringu. Run Lola Run. La Grande Bouffe. Cube. 21 Grams. Time Bandits. The Birds.

There... that should provide some food for thought. And for my next therapy session.
