Scroll Test for Nes Game

Holy cow! I can't believe I can move my own little Nintendo game character around already. :D Thanks again to the peeps who made the tutorials I mentioned yesterday! This is a real learning experience, and without the tutorials I'd be nowhere.

This originally had music and sound effects, but embedding the file in html makes it all lag and I don't know why. So maybe tomorrow I can show you some of the totally weak totally awesome level music I've been messing around with! omgnowai!

Basic Movement Test for NES Game

How exciting!

Firstly, a big thanks to the tile-based tutorials from Tonypa and OutsideofSociety, which I'm using here! I edited the code and programmed my own stuff into the basic platform tutorial to get the animations and directions right, and also probably made everything more complicated than it should be.

In the coming weeks, I hope to work out the bugs and greatly improve functionality, while creating a Nintendo-like platform game that's all my own! How exciting! Wait I already said that.

And a Bonus Movie too! How exciting! :D

Making Logos is Fun, by Mitch Ansara (Spacesick Books, 1972)

Making Logos is Fun, by Mitch Ansara (Spacesick Books, 1972)

I just whipped up this silly nod to classic graphic design books (most notably this one and this reissue) because I realized I actually have money to spend on useless frivolous fun stuff like this!

I'm on a buying spree. Can any of you guys recommend some good vintage design, logo, and art books to check out? Or do you know of a good place to pick up some used copies? The older and more thumbed-through, the better! That's what she said.

Spacesick NES Game Idea

Hey kids! I always thought it would be fun to make up my own NES game, and I'm finally getting around to it. I figure by doing just a little bit of the music, box art, instruction manual, and sprites every day for the MSCED project, something might actually come of it! Maybe even a little playable level, or whatever my limited programming skills will allow.

I whipped up this temporary title screen just to get the idea OUT there. It's not exactly NES-like, though. Back in a few days, nerds!

Lily's Adidas (New Mash-Up)

I don't know why I can't leave mash-ups alone. I mean I'm not particularly GOOD at it, but it's just so much fun! It took me like 2 hours to get to this point, so if anyone actually likes it, I could try to polish it up.

You can download it here, if you're fresh enough.

Death of a Tablet (2005-2009)

Sad times. :( My beloved tablet, my first, my always, my everything- passed on just now when I was forced to bash it violently against my desk. Just once, though! Quick and painless, while I told it about the rabbits. Otherwise I know I'd keep drawing* out the inevitable. We'd been playing this fun game lately where it would hide from the computer while I was drawing something important, and I'd unplug it and plug it back in until I'd almost be in tears from frustration. Then it would pop back up, as if to say "surprise!" :D But when it got caught in an unbreakable USB recognition loop, I knew it was time to say goodbye.

The good news is that within minutes, I had already whipped out my credit card and ordered a new one. I know it can't replace my first tablet, but I bet we'll have fun together! And who knows... Perhaps in time, it will come to be just as special to me.
